About
Fencing Built for Portland Properties
Portland lots run narrow and close, so a fence is in view from the sidewalk, the neighbor’s window, and your own kitchen. That puts the pressure on the details: a straight line across an uneven yard, even spacing, and a finish that reads as part of the house.
We fabricate custom fences in our own shop, install prefab horizontal slat systems, and build vertical fencing either way, then powder-coat to your home’s palette rather than to a catalog swatch.
We build our Portland metal fences together with Fences & Gates Pro, pairing their fencing experience with the fabrication and finishing we do in our own shop.
What We Build
Three Ways We Build a Portland Fence
Each build answers a different kind of Portland property, and between them they cover the city.
Custom Fabricated Fences
For a sloped eastside yard, a corner lot that turns twice, or a design that has to echo a Craftsman or a modern infill build, fabricating in steel or aluminum gives us full control of height, spacing, and detail.
Prefab Horizontal Slat Fences
Prefab horizontal slat panels have become the default on Portland’s newer builds and remodels: consistent factory panels, quicker to install, and clean enough to sit beside board-formed concrete or cedar siding.
Vertical Fences, Custom or Prefab
The upright profile that suits Portland’s older neighborhoods, fabricated to an exact line where the yard demands it, or installed as quality prefab vertical panels where a standard run works.
Slat Materials
Slat Materials: Aluminum and Steel, or Composite
The slat sets the character of the fence, so we offer it in metal or composite.
Aluminum and Steel Slat Fences
Aluminum keeps a slat fence rust-free through Portland’s long wet season and stays light and easy to live with. Steel takes over where a heavier profile or more strength is wanted. Powder-coat runs from matte black through bronze and wood tones.
Composite Slat Fences
Composite slats set wood-look boards into a metal frame, giving a modern Portland elevation the warmth of cedar with none of the annual staining our climate otherwise demands.
Privacy Levels
From Full Privacy to Open and Architectural
Privacy is a dial we set per property rather than a fixed product.
Privacy
Tight slat spacing closes a yard off completely, which matters on Portland’s close-set lots where a neighbor’s second-story window looks straight down into the patio.
Semi Privacy
An even gap screens the direct view from the street or the house next door while keeping the yard bright, a good middle setting for a small city lot.
Open & Architectural
Wider spacing reads as a designed edge rather than a barrier, framing a front garden the way the architecture intended rather than walling it off.
Laser Cut Panels
Custom Laser Cut Panels for Portland Fences
When a project needs something past a standard picket or slat, we laser cut custom metal panels, so a Portland fence can carry a geometric screen or a privacy insert drawn for that property. Cut in our own shop, the panels drop into both custom fabricated fences and prefab runs, which gives a modern home a one-off detail on an efficient base.
We deliver this fencing together with Fences & Gates Pro, pairing their fence experience with our fabrication and laser cutting.

Communities and New Builds
Working With Portland Associations and New Builds
Some Portland communities and condo associations keep written standards for fence height, style, and material, and a few review every exterior change. We put together the drawings and finish samples the association asks for so the approval step is straightforward.
On new construction we work alongside your builder or architect, matching the fence color and profile to the rest of the exterior so it arrives as part of the finished design.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much privacy will a horizontal slat fence give us?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-10-03T01:58:36-07:00
It comes down to slat spacing. Tight with almost no gap closes the yard off completely. A small even gap screens most views while light and air pass through. Wider spacing reads as a clean architectural line.
Can a fence match our home’s architecture?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-10-03T01:58:15-07:00That is most of what we do. We match the profile, the proportion, and the powder-coat color to the house, then pair the fence with a matching gate so the whole line reads as one designed element. Building the fence, gates, and any laser cut panels in one shop keeps the run consistent.
What finishes and colors can we choose from?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-10-03T01:57:52-07:00We powder-coat across a broad range, with matte black, bronze, gray, and wood tones the most requested around Portland. Powder-coat holds up well through damp winters, and we can show you samples against your home's palette before anything is built.
Do you work with homes that have an association or design guidelines?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-10-03T01:57:30-07:00Yes. A number of Portland communities set standards for fence height, style, or material, and we are glad to supply drawings and finish samples so your fence clears the review cleanly. The design stays inside the guidelines while still being drawn for your house.
Aluminum or steel for a modern Portland fence?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-10-03T01:57:05-07:00
Both work when they are finished properly. Aluminum cannot rust, which is why the horizontal slat look is usually built in it, and it stays light and easy to maintain through our wet season. Steel is stronger and carries ornamental detail better. We weigh the two against your design and how exposed the line is.
