Why Washougal Picks Us
Interior Railings Built for Washougal
Washougal sits where the metro ends and the Gorge begins. There are view homes climbing the hills above the Columbia, established blocks around downtown and the old mill, and acreage properties strung along the Washougal River. Each kind of home asks for its own railing.
We keep the whole job with one team. Your stair gets measured in person, the railing gets drawn for it, our shop fabricates it, and our crew installs it. That chain is what lets a railing fit a hillside view home and a 1940s mill-town house equally well.
Glass and cable where the river is the point, warm steel and wood where the home is, and detailed ironwork when the house calls for it.
Our Work
Metal, Glass & Cable for Washougal Homes
Washougal projects usually come down to one question: how much of the view does the stair own? These three systems answer it differently.
Metal Railings
Washougal’s mix of eras is where flexible steel fabrication proves out. A metal railing can be nearly invisible or it can be the centerpiece of the room. We build both: minimal steel balusters that defer to the architecture, and sculptural ironwork that defines it. All fabrication happens in our own shop, so the welds, joints, and finish are held to one standard.
Glass Railings
From the hills above town, the Columbia fills the windows. Glass keeps it filling the stairwell too. Glass railing does two jobs at once: it guards the stair and it disappears as a design element. We fabricate the posts, clamps, and rails ourselves and pair them with glass panels cut for your stair, so the finished system looks like it was made for the house. Because it was.
Cable Railings
Cable fits Washougal’s outdoor-first households: open, sturdy, and easy to live with. For a railing that steps back and lets the staircase speak, cable is hard to beat. We build the posts and top rails in our own shop and tension the cable on site, so the runs stay tight and even.
Neighborhood Know-How
Downtown to the Washougal River
In the hills, around Washougal Heights and Lookout Ridge, newer view homes put stairs and landings in front of the Columbia, so glass and slim steel lead. Down in the older blocks near downtown, Hathaway, and Gause, we modernize mill-era and mid-century stairs with steel, cable, and wood.
East of town the properties stretch out. Along Washougal River Road, toward Mt. Pleasant and Bear Prairie, acreage homes and cabins bring warmer briefs, and toward Cape Horn the Gorge views take over again.

Why It Matters Here
Built Where the Metro Meets the Gorge
Washougal homes live outdoors half the year, and the railing inside should match that spirit: open, honest, and solidly built. We favor systems that keep light moving and sightlines clear, fabricated to the stair instead of trimmed to fit.
The town also spans more eras than people expect, from mill-town blocks to brand-new hillside builds. Measuring every stair in person is how one shop serves both ends of that range well.
Styles
Open Modern or Classic Iron
Most Washougal work runs modern and open, with traditional pieces appearing in the older blocks and out along the river. We build both.
Modern Railings
Hillside Washougal builds share the Gorge brief: open, dark, simple. The modern railings we build lean on proportion rather than ornament: thin steel members, uninterrupted glass, quiet hardware. Done right, the railing becomes a clean line the eye follows through the whole space.
Ornamental Railings
In the older blocks and river farmhouses, detailed iron still feels right. For traditional and formal homes, ornamental iron carries the detail the architecture asks for. Our fabricators build scrollwork, baskets, and custom patterns by hand, so the railing looks like it was always part of the home.

Interior Railing Questions from Washougal
We are up Washougal River Road, outside city limits. Do you come out that far?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-07-23T14:30:32-07:00We do. River Road, Mt. Pleasant, Bear Prairie, and the rest of east Clark County are all inside our service area. Distance from downtown does not change the process: measure, design, fabricate, install.
What styles are Washougal homeowners picking?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-07-23T14:30:11-07:00Black steel and cable lead in the hills and newer neighborhoods, glass takes the view homes, and the older blocks stay loyal to warmer, more detailed work.
Can you update the stairs in an older home near downtown?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-07-23T14:29:51-07:00
Yes. The mill-era and mid-century blocks are steady work for us. Dated systems come out, and steel, cable, or wood-and-metal combinations go in, fabricated to the stair that is actually there.
What railing works best for a Columbia view home in Washougal?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-07-23T14:29:30-07:00When the stair faces the Columbia, glass is the honest answer. It hands the whole view back to the room. Cable is the alternative when you want a little texture or a lighter budget, and it holds up well in active households.
