Why Sherwood Picks Us
Custom Interior Railings for Sherwood Homes
Sherwood grew in rings. Old Town holds the original blocks around Cannery Square, the 1990s and 2000s added family two-stories in Woodhaven and along Sunset, and Brookman is adding the newest ring now, with the Chehalem foothills rising just past the edge of town.
Most of our Sherwood calls start the same way: the house is great, the railing is not. We design the replacement to your stair, fabricate it in our own shop, and install it with our own crew, so the new system fits like the house was built around it.
Black steel with warm wood for the farmhouse look, cable for busy households, glass where the plan is open, and classic profiles for Old Town.
Railing Systems
Railing Types We Build in Sherwood
Sherwood households put railings to work. These three systems handle the load in different ways.
Metal Railings
Steel with a wood top rail is the Sherwood favorite, equal parts modern and warm. From slim steel bars to hand-worked wrought iron, metal offers the widest range of any interior railing material. Black remains the finish homeowners request most, though brass and bronze come up often in higher-end projects. We fabricate each railing to fit your stair, then finish it to hold up to years of daily use.
Glass Railings
In open great-room plans, glass keeps the stairwell from cutting the space in half. Nothing opens up a staircase like glass. We install glass panel systems in framed, semi-frameless, and frameless configurations, sized to your stair. It is the first choice wherever there is a view worth keeping or a floor plan that should stay open.
Cable Railings
Cable takes everything a full house throws at it and keeps its clean line. Cable railing gives you openness without the upkeep of glass. Thin cables, tensioned between shop-built posts, hold their line and let light and sightlines pass straight through. It suits contemporary homes, lofts, and anywhere a heavy railing would fight the architecture.
Where We Work
Old Town to Brookman
Around Old Town and Cannery Square, the earlier homes call for finer profiles and the occasional classic piece. Out in Woodhaven, Cedar Creek, and the Snyder Park blocks, 1990s and 2000s two-stories are our steadiest Sherwood work, trading dated oak and builder iron for custom steel and cable.
On the newer edges, Brookman and the streets near Langer Farms bring first-owner upgrades, and toward Parrett Mountain and the Chehalem foothills, larger properties open the door to bigger commissions.

The Railing Behind the Farmhouse Look
Sherwood is one of the metro’s modern-farmhouse capitals, and the railing carries a lot of that style: black metal below, natural wood on top, simple square lines throughout. Getting it right is a fabrication job, not a catalog order, because the proportions have to match your stair.
The town’s family character shows up in the brief too. Railings here get leaned on, swung around, and climbed past a hundred times a day, so we build solid and keep the design honest.
Styles
Farmhouse Modern or Old Town Classic
Two looks cover most of Sherwood: the black-and-wood modern farmhouse and the classic detail Old Town wears well. Both come from the same drawings-first process.
Modern Railings
Sherwood’s signature: square black balusters, natural wood rail, nothing fussy. The modern railings we build lean on proportion rather than ornament: thin steel members, uninterrupted glass, quiet hardware. Done right, the railing becomes a clean line the eye follows through the whole space.
Ornamental Railings
Old Town’s earlier homes still wear traditional ironwork naturally. For traditional and formal homes, ornamental iron carries the detail the architecture asks for. Our fabricators build scrollwork, baskets, and custom patterns by hand, so the railing looks like it was always part of the home.

Sherwood Homeowners Ask
Which nearby areas do you cover?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-07-23T17:12:44-07:00Tualatin, Wilsonville, Newberg, Tigard, King City, and the rest of the metro. Sherwood is core territory for us, and the Parrett Mountain and Chehalem properties just outside town are included.
What styles are Sherwood homeowners choosing?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-07-23T17:12:16-07:00Wood-and-steel combinations lead by a wide margin, with cable close behind in family homes. Glass appears in open plans, and Old Town keeps classic profiles in the rotation.
Is replacing our builder railing a big project?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-07-23T17:11:47-07:00Smaller than most owners expect. The staircase stays, and only the railing changes. We measure, fabricate the complete system in our shop, then swap the old for the new at your house.
Can you build the modern farmhouse look?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-07-23T17:11:21-07:00Yes, and Sherwood asks for it more than any other city we serve. The usual recipe is square black steel balusters under a natural wood top rail, fabricated to your stair so the spacing and proportions look intentional rather than assembled.
