About Glass Railings

Glass Railings for Vancouver Homes and Businesses

Vancouver’s newer side is built for glass. The Waterfront district looks straight at the Columbia, Felida and Salmon Creek fill with custom homes carrying tall stairs and long deck runs, and Fisher’s Landing keeps a steady rhythm of deck upgrades.

We design, fabricate, and install glass railing systems across all of it: interior stairs and loft edges, exterior decks and balconies, plus commercial lobbies and multifamily projects.

Custom Railings OR is the Oregon arm of a Washington-based company, so Clark County is not an outer edge of our map. It is home ground.

Custom Glass Railings

Custom Glass Railings for Vancouver Homes & Businesses

Vancouver spans a lot of ground: a 1915 Craftsman stair in Hough and a 2024 custom home in Felida have almost nothing in common except that neither takes a stock railing kit well.

Custom fabrication covers both. On an older stair it means panels cut to treads that settled decades ago. On a new build it means long runs, tall foyer sections, and hardware finished to match the rest of the house. Some projects need drawings and custom finishes; many just need careful measuring. Every one starts with a free quote and a site visit.

Interior Glass Railings in Vancouver

In the newer custom homes north and west of town, glass is often specified from the start: foyer stairs, second-floor runs, and loft edges that keep the great room reading as one volume.

In the historic core, glass shows up more selectively, usually in a remodeled rear stair or an added loft, where it modernizes without disturbing a home’s period character. We are happy to tell you where it fits and where it does not.

Where We Work

Serving Every Vancouver Neighborhood

Downtown and at the Waterfront, condo balconies and terraces face the river, which puts frameless at the front of the conversation. Felida, Salmon Creek, and Lakeshore bring custom-home work: tall foyer stairs, long second-floor runs, and elevated view decks.

Out east in Fisher’s Landing and Cascade Park, most glass goes onto decks replacing worn wood railings. In Hough, Arnada, and Shumway, glass appears selectively inside remodels rather than on the historic street face.

Built for Here

Exterior Glass Railings in Vancouver

The Columbia is the reason most Vancouver glass gets installed. On a Waterfront balcony or a north-side view deck, a solid railing takes the river away, and glass hands it back.

We build exterior systems with tempered or laminated safety glass and stainless hardware, sealed at the connections. On homes near the river, where moisture is constant, hardware selection is the difference between a railing you forget about and one you fight.

Styles

Frameless or Framed in Vancouver

River-facing spaces push toward frameless. Family decks and condo balconies usually make the case for framed.

Frameless Glass Railings

Facing the Columbia, frameless is the only railing that gets fully out of the way. With frameless glass there is no post line and no top rail interrupting the panel, just glass held from below or behind by discreet hardware. On a view deck or an open staircase, the railing all but disappears.

Framed Glass Railings

For decks and balconies that see daily use, framed is the practical Vancouver pick. A framed system carries the glass in a metal frame with a top rail across it. It reads modern without being minimal, gives you something solid to hold on stairs, and lands lower on the price range than frameless. Most family decks and condo balconies go framed for exactly those reasons.

Glass Railing Questions from Vancouver

All of Clark County, including Camas, Washougal, Ridgefield, and Battle Ground, plus the full Portland metro across the river.

The glass is fine indefinitely. The hardware is what has to be chosen for constant moisture, which is why we spec stainless on river-adjacent homes and seal every penetration.

Sometimes, and thoughtfully. A rear stair or an added loft takes glass well. A street-facing porch on a 1915 Craftsman usually does not, and we will say so rather than sell you something that fights the house.

Frameless, in most cases. There is no frame line across the river view, and on a shallow balcony the absence of a top rail makes the space feel notably larger. Hardware should be stainless this close to the water.

Yes. Custom Railings OR is the Oregon extension of Custom Railings WA, a Washington-based company with more than 1,500 railings installed, so Vancouver and Clark County are home territory for a licensed and bonded team.
