About Cable Railings

Cable Railings in Vancouver, WA

Vancouver’s newer side is built for cable: custom homes in Felida and Salmon Creek with long deck runs and tall stairs, and a whole east side of established neighborhoods where 1990s wood deck railings are ready to go.

We design, fabricate, and install cable systems across the city for decks, balconies, stairs, and loft edges, plus commercial and multifamily work. Posts and top rails are built in our own shop.

Custom Railings OR is the Oregon arm of a Washington-based company, so Clark County is not the edge of our map. It is home ground.

Custom Cable Railings

Custom Cable Railings for Vancouver Homes and Businesses

Vancouver covers a lot of ground. A new Felida custom home with a long stepped deck and a 1995 Cascade Park deck with settled framing need very different post layouts, and neither takes a stock kit well.

Custom fabrication covers both: posts set to the structure as it actually is, spacing worked out for the run, and cable tensioned to stay crisp. Some projects need drawings and custom finishes; many just need careful measuring. Every one starts with a free quote and a site visit.

Interior Cable Railings in Vancouver

In the newer custom homes north and west of town, cable is often specified from the start: foyer stairs, second-floor runs, and loft edges that keep a great room reading as one volume.

In the historic core, cable appears more selectively, usually in a remodeled rear stair or an added loft where a modern system will not fight the period character out front.

Where We Work

Serving Every Vancouver Neighborhood

Felida, Salmon Creek, and Lakeshore bring the custom-home work: long deck runs, tall foyer stairs, and second-floor overlooks. Downtown and at the Waterfront, condo and mixed-use balconies take slim all-metal systems.

Out east, Fisher’s Landing, Cascade Park, and Mountain View keep a steady rhythm of deck railing replacements. In Hough, Arnada, and Shumway, cable shows up inside remodels rather than on the historic street face.

Exterior Cable Railings in Vancouver

Out east in Fisher’s Landing and Cascade Park, the standard job is a sound deck with a failing wood railing. Cable replaces it with something modern that stops needing attention.

Nearer the river and on the north-side view lots, cable keeps decks open to the Columbia and the tree line while costing less than glass. Stainless is worth specifying carefully anywhere moisture is constant.

Options

Wood Cap or All Metal in Vancouver

New custom homes often go metal throughout. Established-neighborhood remodels usually want the wood cap. Both use the same cable.

Cable with a Wood Top Rail

On a family stair in an established neighborhood, the wood cap is what makes it feel finished. Putting a wood top rail over cable gives you the modern horizontal lines without the interior feeling cold. It is the standard choice on family stairs, where the rail gets held a hundred times a day, and it pairs naturally with wood floors, treads, and decking.

Cable with a Metal Top Rail

On decks and in new custom builds, all-metal keeps the palette tight and the upkeep near zero. Keeping the top rail in metal gives the crispest version of a cable railing. The lines stay thin, the finish stays consistent from post to cap, and outdoors there is no wood to reseal. Black is the most common finish we powder-coat, though the color is yours to pick.

Cable Railing Questions from Vancouver

All of Clark County, including Camas, Washougal, Ridgefield, and Battle Ground, plus the full Portland metro across the river.

That is the standard east-side Vancouver project. If the structure is sound we set new posts to it, build the top rail, and run the cable. The deck stays and the maintenance goes.

Yes. Because we fabricate the posts and top rails in our own shop, matching a powder-coat color, a wood cap, or a post profile already on the property is straightforward. Send a photo of what is there and we will build to it.

Yes. Custom Railings OR is the Oregon extension of Custom Railings WA, a Washington-based company with more than 1,500 railings installed, so Vancouver and Clark County are home territory for a licensed and bonded team.
