About Cable Railings
Cable Railings in Happy Valley, OR
Happy Valley homes came with the same standard iron balusters by the mile, and cable is the most popular thing owners replace them with. It reads modern, it opens up a two-story foyer, and it costs less than a full glass system.
We design, fabricate, and install cable railings across the city for foyer stairs, second-floor runs, decks, balconies, and covered patios. Posts and top rails are built in our own shop and tensioned on site.
It suits the households here as well as the architecture. Cable takes daily use without loosening or needing repainting.
Custom Cable Railings
Custom Cable Railings for Happy Valley Homes
The scale is what makes this work custom. A second-floor run above a great room can stretch a long way, and a two-story foyer stair has landings and turns that a stock kit was never drawn for. Post placement is what makes the finished run look intentional, because each post breaks the horizontal line.
Often custom just means setting that post layout correctly, choosing a top rail that ties into the trim already in the house, and tensioning the cable properly. Larger projects add drawings and custom finishes. Everything starts with a free quote and a measure visit.

Interior Cable Railings in Happy Valley
The two-story foyer is the signature Happy Valley space, and its railing is the first thing anyone sees. Trading standard balusters for cable changes the entry immediately: light from the upper windows reaches the door and the stair stops reading as a wall.
Upstairs, the long run overlooking the great room does the same job, keeping the two floors connected rather than divided by a row of pickets.
Where We Work
From Scouters Mountain to Rock Creek
On the high ground, around Scouters Mountain, Altamont, and Mt. Scott, view decks and tall foyer stairs drive the work. Eagle Landing and Happy Valley Heights bring the long second-floor runs above open great rooms.
In Rock Creek and Pleasant Valley, we are usually the second-owner upgrade, swapping standard iron for cable on the foyer stair, the upstairs run, or the deck out back.

Exterior Cable Railings in Happy Valley
On the view side of the house, cable keeps the valley in sight from a Scouters Mountain or Mt. Scott deck while costing less than glass and letting the breeze move through.
Covered patios and outdoor rooms take it well too. There is no wood to reseal and no balusters to work loose, which suits a space that stays outdoors all year.
Options
Wood Cap or All Metal in Happy Valley
Cable stays the same. The top rail decides how warm or sharp the railing feels, and most homes here go one way inside and the other outside.
Cable with a Wood Top Rail
In a tall foyer with wood floors and trim, the cap is what stops the railing feeling industrial. Putting a wood top rail over cable gives you the modern horizontal lines without the interior feeling cold. It is the standard choice on family stairs, where the rail gets held a hundred times a day, and it pairs naturally with wood floors, treads, and decking.
Cable with a Metal Top Rail
On decks and covered patios, all-metal is the lower-maintenance call. An all-metal system reads sharper. Steel or stainless posts with a matching top rail keep the whole railing in one material and one finish, which suits contemporary architecture and holds up especially well outdoors. Powder-coat colors let you match trim, window frames, or an existing railing.

Happy Valley Homeowners Ask
Do you also serve Clackamas and Damascus?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-08-17T01:50:40-07:00Yes. Happy Valley, Clackamas, Damascus, Milwaukie, and the rest of the metro are all in our regular service area.
Cable or glass for a two-story foyer?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-08-17T01:50:16-07:00Glass gives the most open look and the cleanest sightlines. Cable costs less, brings a horizontal rhythm that suits modern architecture, and gives a solid top rail to hold on the stair. Either one is a large improvement over standard balusters.
How do you keep a long second-floor run looking straight?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-08-17T01:49:47-07:00Post placement and tension. We set the posts to the run as measured and tension the cable evenly, because on a run that long any sag or uneven spacing is visible from the whole main floor. That is the part a stock kit tends to get wrong.
Can you replace our builder-grade iron balusters with cable?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-08-17T01:49:23-07:00Yes, it is our most common Happy Valley project. The staircase stays put. We measure the stair and the upper run, build the posts and top rail to those dimensions, and install cable in place of the old balusters. It changes the entry more than almost any other single upgrade.
