Why Sherwood Picks Us
Porch and Deck Railings for Sherwood Homes
Sherwood’s curb appeal runs through its porches. The modern farmhouse look that took over the town’s newer streets leans on exactly one railing recipe, square black metal under warm wood, and the older homes around Old Town carry porch character of their own.
Out back, the story is decks: family platforms in Woodhaven and Cedar Creek working hard through every season, and new builds in Brookman ready for their first real railing upgrade.
We build all of it in our own shop, porch railings that nail the proportions, deck systems that take the traffic, and step rails everywhere in between, finished for Oregon weather.
Railing Systems
Railing Types for Sherwood Porches & Decks
Sherwood exterior work splits between the porch out front and the deck out back. These three systems cover both sides of the house.
Metal Railings
Black steel under a wood rail is Sherwood’s exterior signature, porch and deck alike. From horizontal deck rails to detailed porch pickets, metal covers the widest range outdoors. We fabricate in steel and aluminum, finish each railing for the wet season, and build to the measurements of your deck or steps, so the fit is exact and the finish lasts.
Glass Railings
Where a deck backs onto trees or open ground, glass keeps the green in play. Nothing preserves an outlook like glass. We install tempered panel systems on decks, balconies, and patios where pickets would chop up the view, sized to the space and paired with posts and rails from our own shop.
Cable Railings
Cable handles Sherwood’s family decks and keeps the farmhouse lines clean. Cable railing keeps a deck open without the panels. Thin stainless runs, tensioned between shop-built posts, stand up to the seasons and let the view pass straight through. It suits contemporary homes and any deck where a heavy railing would close in the space.
Where We Work
Old Town Porches to Brookman Decks
Around Old Town and Cannery Square, porch and step railings on the earlier homes call for finer profiles and the occasional classic piece. In Woodhaven, Cedar Creek, and the Snyder Park blocks, backyard decks from the 90s and 2000s are trading tired wood railings for fabricated metal and cable.
On the newer edges, Brookman and the streets near Langer Farms bring farmhouse porches and first deck upgrades, and toward Parrett Mountain and the Chehalem foothills, larger properties add terraces and long porch runs.

Getting the Farmhouse Porch Right
The modern farmhouse porch lives or dies on proportion: the baluster spacing, the rail height relative to the posts, the way black metal meets painted wood. A kit gets it close; fabrication to your porch’s measurements gets it right, and outdoors the difference is visible from the street.
Deck work adds the durability test. Sherwood families use their decks hard, so we build in properly finished steel and aluminum, seal the connections, and let cable and glass do the open-view work where it fits.
Styles
Farmhouse Black-and-Wood or Old Town Classic
Two looks cover most of Sherwood outdoors: the black-and-wood farmhouse porch and the classic detail Old Town wears well. Both come from the same drawings-first process.
Modern Railings
Sherwood’s porch signature: square black balusters, warm wood rail, clean lines. The modern exterior work we build leans on proportion rather than ornament: thin steel members, uninterrupted glass, clean cable. Finished for the weather, the railing becomes a sharp line the eye follows across the deck.
Ornamental Railings
Around Cannery Square, older porches still carry traditional detail naturally. For traditional homes, ornamental iron carries the detail an entry or porch asks for. Our fabricators build scrollwork, knuckles, and custom patterns by hand and finish them for the weather, so the railing looks original to the house and stays that way.

Sherwood Homeowners Ask
Which nearby areas do you cover for exterior work?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-08-31T15:15:14-07:00
Tualatin, Wilsonville, Newberg, Tigard, King City, and the rest of the metro, plus the Parrett Mountain and Chehalem properties just outside town.
What exterior styles are Sherwood homeowners choosing?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-08-31T15:14:30-07:00Black-and-wood farmhouse combinations lead by a wide margin, cable follows on family decks, and glass appears where a deck faces trees or open ground.
Our backyard deck railing is worn out. Can you replace just the railing?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-08-31T15:13:50-07:00If the deck structure is sound, yes. We fabricate the new steel, cable, or glass system to the deck's measurements and install it in place of the old one. It is the fastest way to make a tired deck feel new.
Can you build the full modern farmhouse porch package?
Custom Railings Oregon2026-08-31T15:13:06-07:00
Yes, it is our most requested Sherwood exterior. Square black steel balusters under a wood top rail, matched step railings down to the walk, and proportions drawn for your porch rather than pulled from a catalog. The finish is chosen for street-facing exposure.
